Liz's Class Notes

We’ve been taking harmonica lessons as a class since the fall, and the students are excited to  perform a new piece they’ve been learning for our upcoming Soul Food Night. The kids  especially appreciate the portability and creative freedom that the harmonica offers, and it has  been wonderful to watch their confidence grow as musicians.

We recently completed our class read-aloud of The Thing About Jellyfish by Ali Benjamin. This  poignant and imaginative novel led to rich class discussions about friendship, loss, perspective,  and curiosity. Reading about characters close to their own age supports students in building  empathy and stretching their ability to imagine experiences beyond their own — an important  part of growing as thoughtful readers and community members.

Students are also in the process of selecting their Senior Learner Projects this week. This project  is a major, long-term undertaking that allows each student to explore a topic of deep interest and  develop real expertise over time. The work will culminate in a public presentation at the end of  the year, where members of the local community are invited to attend and offer feedback on  both the presentations and the project process. More details will be shared as projects take  shape.
