Liz's Senior Learner Class Notes

We enjoyed an excellent first two weeks. We visited Cupsogue Beach for a lovely day of collecting seaweed, swimming, and even some singing in the van. Back at school, we cleaned our seaweed and prepared it for pressing. We also visited the South Fork Natural History Museum and Nature Center and the LongHouse, where we learned about their gorgeous, artful gardens. In the coming weeks, we'll explore the evolution of seaweed and build a better understanding of photosynthesis. Best of all, we've begun forming as a classroom community.

We’ve also started our read-aloud, The Bletchley Riddle. Set during World War II, the novel follows fourteen-year-old Lizzie Novis, who goes to stay with her older brother Jakob near Bletchley Park after their mother mysteriously disappears in Poland. As the siblings investigate secrets tied to the code-breaking operations nearby, they uncover clues that draw them closer to the truth about their mother's fate — and expose dangers connected to the war effort itself.

Next week, our Senior learners begin their apprenticeships. This year's mentors are: SOFO, CMEE, LongHouse, Grindstone Donuts, L & W Cafe and Market, John Jermain Library, ARF, LTV, and our on-campus apprenticeships with Ryan, Perry and Sabra, and Phoebe and Scott.
