Liz's Class Notes
As part of their study of the American Revolution, our senior learners were tasked with developing tabletop games around topics related to the revolution's origins. The results were impressive! One game explores the Proclamation of 1763, in which King George forbade colonists from settling lands beyond the Appalachian Mountains. Another introduces players to the 13 colonies, while a third teaches about the Haudenosaunee Confederation. A fourth challenges players to master concepts such as diplomatic, confederacy, and clan. These games are a creative and engaging way to explore the historical roots of the American Revolution.
Our senior learners are also hard at work on their individual Senior Learner Projects. This year's topics span an extraordinary range of interests and skills: Lily is developing a tabletop card game; Rafael is designing and building a model of an eco-friendly home; Dash is studying surf culture and creating surfboard art; Lila is learning beading and embroidery; Ava is making art connected to sports; Viv is designing and constructing a building from cardboard; Parker is exploring the world of animation; JC is perfecting the art of the cupcake; Aylin is conducting research on students' views on education; Miles is diving into the world of fishing; Sydney is writing a play; Lucia is learning to make homemade pasta from scratch; Indie is photographing and researching the birds of Costa Rica; and Nina is sewing a dress.
Each week, learners meet with their mentors to discuss their progress and set goals for the week ahead. Though still in the early stages of their studies, the kids are already thinking creatively about how to share their learning for the Senior Learner Presentations scheduled for April 22nd.
