Kitchen Class Notes
March is a busy month in Jeff’s Kitchen. To kick off the month, we celebrated our annual Soul Food Night on the evening of March 4th to celebrate Black history, culture, music, and food. Our chefs spent the days leading up carrying picnic tables from around the snowy campus, baking cookies to fill platters for the dinner tables, and arranging flower bouquets. We gathered all serving utensils to prepare for the sea of potluck dishes that our families and community members cooked. Our lemon themed dessert competition had enthusiastic participation, and lemon treats of all shapes and sizes were tasted and scored. This was the first time we have gathered for Soul Food Night in Jeff’s kitchen in over five years. The fit was tight but cozy, and overflowing with talking, eating, and laughing. Later in the week, the senior learners helped to prepare a Curried Red Lentil soup for Hayground School’s contribution to Empty Bowls; the annual fundraiser for Project Most.
