Senior Learners Class Notes

I hope all of you are finding ways to weather this pandemic storm!! The kids look a bit tired, perhaps a bit overwhelmed, but happy to see their classmates on our Zoom conference calls. Dash Breen has joined us from his social distancing in Spain, and so it’s great to have the group reunited. Travis Foreman joined us for a Zoom session, and we have some special guest stars scheduled for next week. I’ll let your kids tell you about it next week.

Pivoting to distance learning is a process for all of us. I’m sure it can seem a bit strange for the kids in that, on the one hand, it feels like a snow day, and yet they have math, writing, drawings, and short stories to think about. We’ve just finished week one, and they did it!!! You all did too and thank you for your support.

Currently, we are exploring the genre of short story. The kids are reading a short story anthology containing writers from diverse backgrounds, offering a variety of voices. We’ll begin writing our own stories very soon. I’m waiting on some of the feedback from the senior learner panelists, and as soon as I receive them, I put together pdf files so that you and your child can read them from home.

We’ll begin our foray into pandemics and public health starting April 6th. Stay tuned for details. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
