Sakiko and R.J. ’s Class Notes
“The sun was warm but the wind was chill…one knows it is March.” Robert Frost
We kicked off the month of March by celebrating Women’s History Month with a reading of A Life Made by Hand: The Story of Ruth Asawa by Andrea D’Aquino. Through our discussions, students reflected on important women in their own lives and shared how these individuals have influenced and inspired them.
Our class newsletter continues to be a focal point of our year-long journey into journalism. Students have been exploring the world of photography and learning how a single image can tell a powerful story. As budding reporters, they have been documenting the construction of the new library and capturing many of the wonderful happenings at Hayground—from Soul Food Night to the excitement of visiting Lucy’s class to view their planetarium.
Along the way, students are truly honing their interviewing skills, learning how to ask thoughtful questions and gather just the right amount of information to craft an engaging and informative story for the paper.
Later this month we will be joining Marybeth and Lora’s class on a sailing excursion led by our scientist in residence, Ryan O’Keeffe.
