Mbachi's Class Notes

The students are knee-deep in work. They are working on turning their memoirs into google slides

and adding appropriate images that tie in with their memory to create a visually beautiful memoir. It

has been exciting and challenging to see them figure out what they are working on.

As we get closer to the end of the year, we have been tightening up the loose ends with the La Amis-

tad. First, we managed to contact a descendant of Cinque, the person that led the revolt on the ship.

The children spoke to him over the phone. We then worked with Mark Scheinder to generate ques-

tions to send to him. He has responded to us, and now the children are reading his responses. It was

an exhilarating moment as researchers to find yielding results.

We will tell the famous story through the eyes of the children on board, their impression of the boat.

and what they found when they were on it. We are working on empathy. Ultimately, we spoke both

on camera and off camera.
