LIZ'S CLASS NOTES

We've been busy researching the Soviet Union. Each student chose an area to learn more about and created a one-page document of text and illustrations of their research. Our research projects are a culmination of our year-long learning that began with reading Breaking Stalin's Nose and Genius Under the Table by Eugene Yelchin. (Eugene Yelchin) On Friday, the students presented their research to the class, and as a group, created a timeline of the highly complex history of the Soviet Union.

Each year, we ask a professional writer to direct the Senior Learner Essay Project, and this year, we are pleased to have N. Griffin work with the kids. Griffin will develop an essay topic, the kids will write independently, and Griffin will provide the kids with feedback. The essay project is an opportunity for the kids to form and develop their ideas on the page, and as you know, great thinking and excellent writing are equally important. Also, having this opportunity to receive feedback from a professional writer is extremely valuable. The kids will receive the essay topic on Monday and begin writing.

Our Friday, May 19th, the senior learners are holding their "Thank You" dinner for parents, mentors, and teachers. This is Family Conference Day, and as soon as I know the time for the kids to arrive, I'll let you all know
