Notebook #4

From the Arts, Science & Library Center Builder’s Notebook #4

John provided a progress update:

  • Septic is being installed and we need to move fill to install drywells. It was decided to remove the excess excavation spoils to east of the bike track and south of the entry driveway and west of the parking lot.

  • Prep for steel installation started today. Steel will be installed on Friday and Monday (due to weather forecast for Thursday)

  • Prep installation for the glulam beams started today. Glulams are to arrive on Monday (5/4) and floor panels on 5/7. We will start install immediately.

Discussed Entry doors and the door to Library roof quote from Otto Glass:

  • The “storefront” style is accepted, and John will formalize a Change Order that will include their cost and credits for the budget material and labor for the Andersen units in the quote.

  • Cube Skylight – John and David will pursue finalizing that price from Otto Glass.

Discussed upcoming decisions and needs:

  • Exterior Doors finalized – John and David are requesting pricing for the large “pocket door” to the Amphitheater from Rockman Millwork. They are pricing 2 options – wood (LaPage) and an aluminum unit (European). The pricing from North Shore Window and Door seems too high.

  • Plumbing fixtures – sinks and faucets, in addition, and not discussed, is an eye-wash sink needed in the Science Rm?

  • Need decision on final grades

  • Library Roof use – there is an opportunity to install permanent or semi-permanent railings or railing supports with the concrete slab on the Library Roof. The use and finish of the Library Roof needs to be discussed and decided.

  • Interior finishes – the windows will be “wrapped drywall” and the interior doors are flush solid core birch with metal frames. Discussions/decisions for interior millwork or other finishes needed to finalize projected final budget.

Existing Building

  • Discussed sequencing work on the existing buildings during vacation and other times when the school/camp is not in session. Perry and Arjun met with other staff and have preliminary needs. They will meet with David to start to finalize.
