Notebook #3

From the Arts, Science & Library Center Builder’s Notebook #3

John provided a progress update:

  • The plumbing waste sub-slab roughs are complete and inspected.

  • The electrical floor outlet roughs are underway and will be complete 4/16/26

  • The rough concrete slab for the Science Rm is scheduled to be installed 4/17/26

  • The structural steel is scheduled to start towards the end of the week of 4/20/26 and into the week of 4/27/26

  • There have been some frustrating delays from Smartlam, the mass timber supplier. Their current delivery date is now 4-5 weeks out, which is 2-3 weeks from their earlier delivery date. John is communicating with them to get the floor beams and panels delivered sooner.

Discussed upcoming decisions and needs:

  • Exterior Doors finalized – John will secure quotes for the “storefront” style entry doors. David will finalize the design and pricing for the large “pocket door” to the Amphitheater.

  • Plumbing fixtures – sinks and faucets, in addition, and not discussed, is an eye-wash sink needed in the Science Rm?

  • The septic system and drainage drywells are scheduled to be installed in the next 2 weeks. When they are complete, the final grades in those areas can be established. Need decision on final grades

  • Library Roof use – there is an opportunity to install permanent or semi-permanent railings or railing supports with the concrete slab on the Library Roof. The use and finish of the Library Roof needs to be discussed and decided.

  • Existing Building – discussed sequencing work on the existing buildings during vacation and other times when the school/camp is not in session. Perry, Marcelle, and Doug will meet with other staff and start to finalize the school’s needs. David will review previous designs and will meet with them to start to finalize those modifications with the goal of completing the modifications with minimal interruption to school/camp operations.
