Sakiko and R.J.’s Class Notes

We had a great start to the school year! We began with ice breakers outside, introducing ourselves, sharing stories from our summer to a partner, and then to the entire class.

We have busy decorating our classroom by creating labels for our cubbies, working on a collaboratively on a fall mural, and creating a class schedule with beautiful illustrations. We have introduced our first poem, “Fall”, that we have practiced together, also we decorated our own poetry books and painted beautiful illustrations of Fall means to us.

We’ve had quiet time with books in the classroom as well as utilizing our listening center. We have also started writing our own stories.

We read the book Deadline! From News to Newspaper by Gail Gibbons to introduce our yearlong study into the world of journalism. We also read The Leaf Thief by Alice Flemming. A story about a curious squirrel in search of the culprit stealing all of his beautiful leaves. Specials are underway, with Art Studio, Garden, Science and Kitchen. The eldest in the class will cook lunch for the school each Tuesday morning. This past week we also started Music on Monday afternoons. And lastly the students have enjoyed gymnastics each each Monday and Thursday. We’re looking forward to a wonderful year!
