Ryan's Class Notes

Our young scientists have been working hard on a couple of projects. We have been painting the wall in our science classroom to represent Long Island, making it easier to discuss the different bodies of water that surround us and the key differences between them. Additionally, we have been working on a model of Long Island's aquifer so that we can represent how the water table affects our local waters such as runoff as well as waster water leeching into our bays.

During the warmer weather, we visited our oyster garden, exploring their effects on the waters of Sag Harbor Bay and collecting data such as salinity, pH, temperature, and other environmental parameters. Due to the coldness, the oyster garden has been winterized in which we will revisit it in the Spring to unwinterized it and see how the oysters have changed and re-analyze the water quality.

After the break we will be visiting some additional field sites such as Trout Pond, Sag Main Beach, and West Scott Cameron beach to compare how environmental parameters change depending on the different bodies of water and compare the different life in these areas.
