JULIE and MBACHI'S CLASS

Our first full week of school was a great success! The kids enjoyed their time in the kitchen, garden and studio and navigated their math classes with ease.

In class we had our first of many design challenges. We explored how to fold and create shapes made out of paper. Our first shapes were cylinders and rectangular prisms. Then, with their partners, students chose an element from one of the stories their classmates have shared over the past week that they might be able to build using a cylinder or rectangle prism. They chose such things as the magnolia tree someone fell out of, a mysterious treasure box, the arrow shaft from a bow and arrow, or a fishing pole.

We began our class read aloud of the Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, by Kate DiCamillo. The students also began brainstorming and writing their own stories during Writing Workshop and chose independent reading books. Please be on the lookout for information about our Class Dinner on October 6, time TBA. Our class parent, Elaine Duff (Oliver’s mom) will reach out with details about what to bring.
