Senior Learners

The Senior Learners are in residence at The Watermill Center. The first week the kids spent time writing flash-fiction stories, and the second week, we were joined by artists and parents, Lora Lomuscio and Bran Dougherty-Johnson. With Bran and Lora, the kids found settings to film adaptions of their stories. Once the filming and editing are completed, Bran and Lora will collaborate with the kids in developing performances to accompany the films. We extended our residency to include the last week of January, and when we have a date to showcase our works-in-progress, we’ll let you know. In addition to our immersive experiences at The Watermill Center, we began reading “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens. Though many know the story, reading a novella written in 1843 presents the kids with the opportunity to slow down to take in the rich language of this old ghost story. Each week the kids are assigned a “one-pager” which includes opportunities for literary analysis, vocabulary development, and artistic renderings of aspects of the novel. The kids will begin developing “one-pager” assignments for their peers this week. for
