Charlie's Class Notes

It was a busy February for our class. We learned about the “March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom” for our Soul Food Night performance and began the Senior Learner Projects. Each student was asked to chose a topic, or area of study, and set a learning goal for themselves. After meeting with a mentor, they have spent the past 6 weeks reading, watching videos, experimenting, investigated, drawing and more, in an effort to understand their topic or achieve their learning objectives. Some of this year's topics include jet engines, cabinet making, playwriting, and speaking Japanese. Since each student set their own learning objective, each has taken a different path. After this final week of investigation, the class will begin to look back at the work of the past six weeks and prepare for the presentation to a guest panel on Wednesday, March 28. There will be a presentation of projects to the school in the same week.

As we get closer to April, students will be asked to choose their preferences for apprenticeships. The apprenticeship period will run from April 10 - May 24. Students will spend at least 3 days at each apprenticeship location and are expected to produce a tangible project by the end of their experience to showcase what they've learned to the school.
