The Chair Auction from Julie and Jackie’s Class was a grand success and the Senior Learners completed their presentations on a wide variety of topics from French Pastry to Prison Reform.
This Friday, May 23 is the last day of after school programs.
The Senior Learners will be presenting their projects to the school at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 21 and Tuesday May 27th at 2:15 pm. Please join us and see what is in store for your child when they reach the culmination of their Hayground Education:

Tuesday, May 20 - the three middle groups are heading to the Bronx Zoo for a fun filled day. The oldest and two youngest classes are going to share a picnic lunch together.

🌷A Busy Week!🌷
Sightings of two Osprey in our nest have been reported! The Cherry blossoms are in full force. The Native plant around the reader sculpture in blooming. Our Salad and veggies are mostly from Hayground gardens!
Tuesday, May 6 at 2:15 there will be the Student Art Exhibit featuring art from all of the Hayground Students. All parents, grandparents and friends of Hayground are invited.
Tuesday, May 6 at 2:15 Parents in Lucy’s class are invited to the their Museum opening.
The Parent Committee did some wonderfull work preparing for the school dance last week - Thank You! The dance is May 8 from 5-7pm for students in the oldest four classes. It will be followed by the sleepover for students who are 10 years old by September 2025. Perry, R.J, Julie, Hannah and Oskar with be chaperoning.
The screening of “Anxious Nation” by Hayground parent Vanessa Roth was a truly wonderland informative event. We had over 50 attendees from both Hayground and the community.

Campus in Spring Bloom 🌷
We hope you had a wonderful spring break. The campus is starting to bloom. Keep an eye on our osprey nest to see if we have any new occupants.
Our Senior learners will be on their trip to Philadelphia from Wednesday to Friday. The middle groups will be visiting the Bridgehampton library on Friday to see the books they published on display and read the reviews from the librarians. Keep an eye out for permission slips from you teachers. Our spring schedule of events and celebration is very busy so take a moment to update your calendars.

Wednesday, March 19 – 2:00 PM - All families are invited to a special gathering “Tales of the Deep – A Variety Show” presented by Marybeth and R.J.’s class
Thursday, March 20, 6-8-pm – All families are invited to “A Day in the Life of Hayground Student” – Come see how your children learn. The program for the evening is attached. Friday, March 21 – Joe Salmone from LICAB ( Long Island Council against Bullying) will be coming to talk about friendships, how to treat each other well and offer healthy ways to handle difficult social situations. He will do age-appropriate visits with each group and then spend time with the faculty at faculty meeting.

Updates
Soul Food night was really special this year. The students did a great job celebrating African America Culture through Art, Song, Dance, History, and Poetry. The pineapple dessert competition was delicious and the dancing was on point. Thank you all for contributing.
The Faculty had a very inspiring Staff Development Day. We did a mini workshop with Hannah on coding and spent the rest of the day delving into the Descriptive Review- a methodology for looking really deeply at students work and how they carry themselves through the day. Attached is and article by Pat Carini, “A Letter to Parents and Teachers”, that informed our day. It is worth the read.
Friday is Pi day.

We have been holding a series of “Kindness discussions” during our weekly afternoon gatherings. The topics the kids bring up include “Are we saying please and thank you in the lunch line?” Are we cleaning up after ourselves in the lunchroom so that our friends who have clean-up that day don’t have so much work?”, “What does being a good friend look like?”
As an extension we are having "Friendship lunches” in smaller groups to deepen the conversation about what a good friend looks like.

Welcome Back!
Happy New Year!
What a wonderful production of The Tempest. There were so many examples of students shining during the residency. We will share some photos soon.
Please keep an eye out for the Winter/Spring afterschool sign-up which will be coming to you soon as well.
Hudson Music will be holding a student concert on January 27 at 4 pm during which they will show off what they have learned this fall and winter. All are welcome.
We are also happy to announce that Hudson Music will continue through the remainder of the year. Those children who are signed up can continue and any new students are welcome to join (7 and up). Please let Arjun know. New students can begin on Friday, February 1st.
The Parent Committee is organizing a Trivia night for parents for January 31, at 6 pm.

There will be no after school programs on Thursday, December 19 and Friday December 20 – BMX, Crafter and Cooks, Hudson Music, Nature crafts
Set work – Come to the studio Monday and Tuesday to help finish the set.
Set transportation – Wednesday at 8:30 transport set to Bridgehampton school – trucks and vans needed on Thursday after the evening performance transport set back to Hayground
Child transportation:
Wednesday at 12:15 to Bridgehampton school for dress rehearsal and back to school at 2:30.
Thursday at 12:30 to Bridgehampton and return to school at 2:30. Please sign the permission slip ( attached below) and indicate if you can help drive.
We will culminate our Shakespeare residency with two performances on Thursday, December 19 at 1pm and 6pm at the Bridgehampton School.

11/26 – The Feast of Remembrance will be on Tuesday, November 26 at 10:00 a.m.. More information will be coming shortly on what food to bring, and a sign-up for volunteers to help set-up and clean-up. We will also be starting our Remembrance Wall this week. You and your child/ren can bring in any photos, drawing or symbols of someone or something you would like to remember and put them on the bulletin board in the gathering space. Directly following the feast, we will all meet for the Groundbreaking for our New Arts and Science Center at 12p.m.

Saturday 10/26 - We are co-hosting "Trunk or Treat" with theBridgehampton Childcare center again this year. We had so much fun last year when we hosted the event at Hayground. You can come and enjoythe trunks or come and decorate your own! Decorate your trunk, fill it with treats, and join us for some fun at 551 Bridgehampton - Sag Harbor Tpk from 2-4pm!
Thursday 10/31 – Halloween Party - all are welcome – 2:00pm- Costume parade, 2:20pm- Costume fashion show and Monstermash dance party!
11/1 - Staff Development Day - School Closed
Thank you to those you came to Helping Hands Day on Saturday. It was perfect weather. We were able to accomplish all of our jobs. We took down the large tent and moved the floor in preparation for our Arts and Science Center construction, we took down the woodshop tent and cleaned all of the school windows and stored the screens! Many of these jobs need many hands and we couldn’t do them without you!
The Open House was also very busy with prospective families.
