JULIE'S CLASS NOTES

Happy Fall! I hope you all enjoy this season as much as I do. We were fortunate to have beautiful weather for apple picking and the day was loads of fun. It is always so nice to be able to engage with parents outside of our school walls, so thank you if you joined us last Friday.

As a group, we shared our classroom expectations, or “norms” for how we think our physical space should be taken care of, as well as the ethos of our class. After typing up the students’ ideas, I presented it to them as a contract. We discussed what a contract is, why our signatures, or our names on something would be binding, and then we discussed the difference between print and cursive. Most people have their own signature, but the kids began by practicing each class- mates’ name in cursive, and then their own, until they thought they could sign the contract with- out tracing their name in script. I explained that they may have to sign a contract when our store opens, to ensure that they agree to do the job they choose, (and potentially interview for). Their signature will also become important as we begin a study of letter writing next week.
