Liz and Mbachi's Class Notes

We finished our epic read aloud, A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle. In his summary of the novel, Charlie Troy wrote, “A girl named Meg has a missing father. She must journey with two boys and three mysterious figures into the darkness of space and time and survive. But they know nothing of what's to come in this wonky wrinkle." We are extremely interested in seeing how Ava De Vernay, the director of the film, adapted the novel to the screen. We hope to take the kids to see the movie in March. During the Shakespeare residency, we had a lovely tea and talk with filmmaker and television producer, Mark Schneider. Mark was executive producer of The Chew and has a long career in food-related film and television. Mark and the kids enjoyed a conversation in which they shared filmmaking stories. He asked questions of the kids that facilitated discussions about the importance of story in filmmaking, why it's important to go to great lengths for an excellent shot, and the kids appreciated the opportunity to speak to someone with Mark's experience. We have special guest coming for tea in February - more to follow.

The kids are busy working on their films as well as their writing for upcoming Budding Authors program at Bridgehampton Library. Steve from MonoNoaware will arrive for a full day Super8 residency on Wednesday, May 3rd and we couldn't be more happy about this! Hope to see you all for our annual Soul Food Night!
