Julie's Class Notes

As we spend the next two weeks wrapping up and submitting the documentation of the students’ process to the Invent It Challenge, we have also returned our focus to our on-going playground project.

Last Friday, the weather was warm, and the concrete was flowing. Along with Perry Burns from the Art Studio, and other dedicated members of Hayground, our class poured and shoveled the cement that will become the second rainbow arch for Hayground’s Rain-bow Climber. The Rainbow Climber is one of the structures that previous Invention Classes have dreamed up as additions to our playground. The arches will enable more climbing, and crawling but also will serve as a tunnel or semi-enclosed space that fosters imaginative play.

Due to the pandemic, we have had to pause construction work on the structure, so a re-turn to it is exciting for many reasons. Bringing the climber to life has been a true collabo-ration between the Invention Class and the Art Studio. Our goal is to right the existing structures and have more parts completed by the end of this year. There will be video and photos posted to the class website this week.
