Emily’s Class Notes

Last month, students welcomed two monarch caterpillars found on our campus into the classroom, allowing the opportunity to witness metamorphosis before our very own eyes. This experience lead us to the question, what is change? Upon releasing our new friends named “Mirabelle” and “Traveler”, students learned that these beautiful butterflies would be making their annual migration to warmer climates.

We realized that there are many different types of patterns and cycles within nature and began to explore the cycle of seasonal change. Students have been keeping track of the changes observed on campus and within the community while collecting, sorting, and creating using pieces of evidence while exploring outdoors. We created a fall word wall, wrote stories about leaf characters, preserved colored leaves using beeswax, made leaf prints, and learned about what makes leaves change color. We look forward to seeing where our explorations take us next!
