As part of our visiting artist program, we are excited to welcome Jaxie Rodriguez to Hayground next week. Jaxie will be working with your children in the art studio for the week, teaching the art of "pyrography," or writing with fire. Jaxie is a member of the Kanesatake Mohawk Nation and has been studying woodworking and the art of wood burning for over 20 years. Her residency will culminate with the adornment of a bench that will be dedicated in honor of Elizabeth "Chee Chee" Thunderbird Haile of the Shinnecock Nation, who was a grandparent and a founding member of Hayground School. The dedication ceremony will be held at a time and date in the Spring to be announced.
